I kinda like January, as months go. It’s calm, compared to the craziness of December. Things are expected to slow down. All those back-burnered things on your to-do list finally have time to see the light of day. The cold and ice and snow are still a novelty — an excuse to hunker down and do relaxing, indoor things.
We had a big birthday this January. Yes, I have a sixteen year old. Her celebration was a great reminder of what a great kid she is — making good choices, choosing nice friends, working hard and having fun. (It was also a reminder of how OLD I am — wasn’t I just sixteen myself, like, five years ago? — but that’s a whole other story).
A fun afternoon at the playground in Central Park right next to the Met.
It was raining rainbows!
Sometimes, when I watch these Iden Avenue boys, it reminds me of an old movie from the fifties. Here, they’re playing soccer under the street lights in the middle of a snow storm. I don’t think they realize how good they’ve got it. I’ll have to remind them.
January is also great for board games — with teams — before bedtime.
If you’ve never played Quelf before, these may look a little bizarre. If you’ve played it, you’ll get it.
I tried something new in January with Instagram. To encourage voters to look around during the contest, I posted some LYYP pics on my IG feed as part of the Pic of the Year Contest for 2014. It was really fun and lots of people got involved. It’s weird, though, to have them here in my mostly-personal feed. I like to keep things in their proper compartments, I guess. 😉
Another new thing I tried in January may have actually cramped my style on Instagram a little (really, there’s only so much daily documentation you can do without driving yourself crazy ;). It’s a really fun project called “1 Second Every Day” and you can see my first month HERE. It’s super easy and I think the results are pretty cool. You should try it!
That’s it for January. Thanks for looking!
