There’s no question that lifestyle photography sessions at home are my favorite kind. You know that if you hang out here much. But even people who agree with me in theory are sometimes hesitant to schedule their sessions at home. They’ve got too many things on their home’s ‘to do’ list — it’s just not ready. The walls aren’t painted the right color, they haven’t updated the kitchen yet, haven’t invested in the furniture they imagine filling the rooms, whatever.
After two previous sessions at a local park, I managed to convince this family to hang out at home with me on a Saturday morning before Thanksgiving. We benefitted from the amazing fall foliage outside for a bit, and then headed inside. I got tours of the kids’ rooms, played with their toys for a bit, and got to snag lots of photos of the whole family being THEM — in their natural environment. THAT’s what I’m going for, and that’s what I love. (Hmmm … maybe I should start calling myself a nature photographer — “capturing families in their native environment!”).
The best part? Being right, of course. I TOLD them they’d love photos in their home — that the photos would have an element to them that’s impossible to capture anywhere else. And they did.
Yay!
Thanks for looking … and think about this when you’re considering where to do YOUR next session, OK?
