I’m here today to showcase a particular family who has taken the art of photo display to a level that even I — as a photo-obsessed photographer and mother of four – can only aspire to.
I spend a lot of time on my blog and socials discussing “storybook albums” — a term I use to collectively describe my McGuire Storybooks and Lincoln Coffee Table Books. These two products are my absolute favorites for preserving and displaying your memories, and I believe that in most cases, they’re the best solutions for giving your photos forever value.
But hey – not everyone opts for my Storybook and Epic Collections. After viewing their gallery preview, some families choose my Cliff Notes Collection. This option includes all the digitals from your gallery and a print credit, but does not come with any kind of book. This is fine! This is totally fine! But here’s where I make a little confession: when families choose a collection that doesn’t include a book, I find myself feeling a little bit uneasy. When it comes to family memories, I’m a little bit bossy at heart and I really want those photos to live a full and happy life — so, it makes me squirmy to imagine beloved memories lost in a digital abyss. (We all know that hard drives and camera rolls can be black holes, leaving precious memories — tiny little details that didn’t make it into that framed picture on the wall — forgotten and under-appreciated).
To deal with this, I imagine that the lead historian in each of these families pours careful, loving hours into creating their own books — there are lots of options out there and some people (ahem) like the process of designing and printing photo books! This coping method of mine is sometimes reinforced when I spot a shelf full of said books in my families’ homes during repeat visits. This makes me feel better.
But SOMETIMES, families come up with photo display solutions that challenge my firm belief in the sovereignty of photo books. These inventive displays remind me that there are plenty of ways to celebrate and preserve family memories. This fills my family historian heart with joy.
Without further ado, below are 5 categories of creative suggestions for displaying your photos that go beyond traditional photo albums, wall hangings and photo cards. These ideas are sure to help you enjoy and showcase your memories in new and exciting ways!
