Just kidding, friends.
I don’t really pose my families. Yet, when I get a photo whose composition really tickles me, I sometimes like to pretend I directed each element. What would that sound like?
“Now sister, I want you to lean slightly back on your right arm and then lift your left arm gracefully in the air so that your arms perfectly frame baby’s head. Yes, that’s right! No, bring that left arm just a smidge higher. Yes! Now, brother – with your left hand pointing back at the two girls, I want you to lunge away from them with your right arm facing away. That’s it!”
I’m not saying there isn’t a method to the madness – there difinitely is.
At every session, I try to encourage everyone to have fun and be themselves. That rarely means standing still in any pose. I just watch for the best moments and photograph them. It seems like magic, but it’s really just having fun.
Nobody likes a bossypants.
