ON PLANNING

I heard a saying recently that really resonated:  “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail”.

As I enter year THIRTEEN (What?!?!) of my business, I'm realizing that planning has always been a super power of mine.

Planning each month in great detail is what allows me to keep the balance that I need and to serve each of my families with the time and enthusiasm needed to make the magic happen.

What does this mean for you? It means that I am pretty strict with managing my schedule to ensure that balance. Aaaand .... it means that I tend to book up way in advance. My repeat families know this, and they know the tricks to snagging the session spots they want.

little girl reading a picture book to her dad in her bedroom. Maybe she's planning out her week?

If you're hoping for a session with me (and I hope you're hoping!), I've got three simple pieces of advice:

family with two little kids sitting on a couch with a newborn. dad is holding a toddler upside down

Some people think being relaxed means going with the flow and taking things as they come.

For me, the act of charting things out in advance helps me to keep the big picture of what's important in focus.  Time will always be a limited resource. Planning where my time will go -- and fiercely protecting a little white space around those plans so that there's room to appreciate the more spontaneous aspects of life -- is my secret to ensuring that that resource always feels well spent.

Thanks for looking,
