Moments of the Month | February 2020

Five months ago, I was packing my bags for an amazing trip.

It feels like five years ago,  really.  Another lifetime.

It’s a funny thing, though.  We were taking a trip with the two younger boys to meet Kate in Portugal during our February break.  Patrick couldn’t come because he didn’t have a break at that time.  For the first time, we were taking a big “family” trip with only part of the family, and it felt like the beginning of a new, strange normal. Family trips were the most “together” we all used to be, and this time, we wouldn’t be all together.

Well.  You know how this story ends.

Exactly one month after our arrival in Portugal, Kate arrived at JFK, home for good from Spain.  Patrick, who had been on spring break in Montreal, stopped for good in NY instead of continuing back to college in PA.  The two younger boys were home from school, and we were all ordered to “stay at home” for the next three months.  (You can see what that looked like HERE; I’m jumping around a bit in my Moments of the Month these days ;))

Portugal, by the way, was magical.  We spent the first weekend in Porto with Kate, then rented a car and drove south, spending nights in Coimbra, Evora and Sintra before settling in Lisbon for the second weekend of our trip.  We had a fantastic time and would definitely go back (both to Portugal and in time to that pre-covid place of carefree travel!)
