This Moments of the Month post looks a little different from what you’re used to from me in July, right? No beach pictures at all. Well, remember that we were in Ireland until almost the middle of the month. I shared some of my favorites from that trip HERE if you missed it. When we arrived back home, my camera was exhausted. It needed a rest from me, and I from it. The beach was a good place to rest.
I did take my camera with me for a little outing the kids and I took on my birthday, July 25th. We went to a cool exhibit at Fort Tilden called “Rockaway!” — “a free public arts festival celebrating the reopening of Fort Tilden after Sandy and the ongoing recovery of the Rockaway Peninsula.” The highlight for us was a loan from The Museum of Modern Art in Fort Tilden’s military chapel: The Forty Piece Motet by Janet Cardiff, “a spatialized adaptation of a sacred 16th-century motet created by recording each member of a choir individually and giving each voice its own speaker.” Extremely cool. “Rockaway” is open through September 1st and I highly recommend it.
Afterwards, we went to the famous Maria’s Food Truck for shakes — my first time. And then, of course, to the beach. Dinner later with the whole family at a fun new Mexican place. A great day!
Thankfully, my trusty iPhone was always at my fingertips to capture some more highlights of July 2014 — three big family birthdays, parties, games, trophies, weddings, and lots of beach time. I still have to go back to my Ireland photos, organize them and make a big book. I may or may not be updating this post eventually with some more favorites that weren’t included in my previous post.
Thanks for looking, and I hope you’re enjoying the last weeks of summer!
