I’m sitting here in a cabin in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, having been evacuated from Breezy Point due to the impending arrival of Hurricane Irene. (Yes, we could have “evacuated” to Pelham, but we had been planning a few days here in the Berkshires starting tomorrow, so under the circumstances we decided to come up a day early and call it an “evacu-cation”). Breezy is till wringing itself out from a major flood two weeks ago caused by heavy rains and full-moon high tides. Here’s hoping Irene gets turned off by all the hype and bounces off into the ocean without doing any serious damage.
